Position: Coordinator - Most Vulnerable Children and Youth

Reports to: HWWK Nuru Program Manager

General description of the role: The Coordinator - Most Vulnerable Children and Youth is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementation and monitoring of interventions among Most Vulnerable Children in Embakasi, Makadara and Njiru sub-counties in Nairobi County. 

The coordinator will work in partnership with key stakeholders at the community level and will be will responsible for identification of most vulnerable children and other beneficiaries of the program using a participatory process as well as ensuring protection of children’s rights.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure that the required comprehensive Biomedical, Behavioral and Structural interventions are in place and provided either by HWWK or other stakeholders / collaborators. The stakeholders / collaborators will include Government of Kenya Ministry of health facilities, Other Health Care facilities (NGO, FBO) the Department of Children Services and the Kenya Security and Law Enforcement Agencies (e.g. police force) among others.
• Work to ensure that effective program linkages exist across the 3 domains of the program (Structural, Biomedical and Behavioral) to enable access to these services by the children and other beneficiaries.
• Support and supervise the MVC peer educators in the recruitment and follow up of children identified and enrolled in the program.
• Coordinate program monitoring activities to ensure access to high quality Biomedical, Behavioral and Structural services for the children and other beneficiaries, and monitor retention. 
• Participate in and provide technical support to the stakeholders at community level on issues involving Most Vulnerable Children and Youth. 
• Work with the other stakeholders and community to identify opportunities for preventing/addressing factors that contribute to increasing vulnerability among children and document these. 
• Provide or facilitate team training and mentorship as needed 
• Coordinate quarterly reviews and evaluation of program activities and ensure proper documentation of innovative approaches and best practices for dissemination and sharing experiences to promote repeat applications or scaling-up in different community settings.

Qualifications

The minimum required academic and professional skills for the jobholder to perform successfully in this position include:

• A University degree from an accredited college preferably in the social sciences, education, community development or related field or a diploma with at least 5 years’ experience in HIV Programming, Adolescent Reproductive Health, OVC and other related fields.
• Certificate in training of trainers
• Should have a minimum 3 years’ experience working in HIV prevention among children and youth.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills (English and Swahili)
• Computer literacy in the use of MS Office Suite is mandatory.
• Proven leadership, communication, interpersonal, decision making and analytical skills
• Ability to work and deliver results with minimum supervision
• Demonstrated ability to work as a team player in a multi-disciplinary team setting
